a very special evening celebrating the work of Rubem Robierb

Thursday, March 30th, 2017

6.oopm - 8.oopm

rsvp by March 27th to

iD + kasia kay art projects are excited and thrilled to showcase the artwork of Rubem Robierb. This Pop-Up exhibition, displays multi-media pieces which will be on sale and on display through the end of April.

Rubem Robierb was born 1976 in Maranhao, the brazilian state home to several renowned Brazilian poets. For many years Robierb was both a poet and photographer using photos to translate his literary works into images. Gradually this interest in photography became a primary catalyst in Robierb's artistic practice. Four years ago, Robierb moved to the United States to continue developing his artistic career; now he lives between New York and Miami, where he has his own studio and regularly participates in Art Basel.

Currently Robierb creates multi-media artworks that involve photography, silkscreen, painting and sculpture. This recent work explores the fragility of life by contrasting the innocence and beauty of butterflies and flowers with symbols of violence. This contrast serves as a metaphor and at the same time invites criticism of war and destruction. His work has shown internationally in solo and group gallery exhibitions, as well as various international art fairs. The artist is represented by various galleries in the U.S. and in Europe. In Chicago, Robierb is represented by Kasia Kay Art Projects. We were excited to collaborate on this event and hope you will join us for a great night!

Thorn + Grace Trunk Show

For one day only iD is excited and thrilled to showcase new work of Chicago artist, Brenda Dawn Jones. Her work has been featured in our showroom in the past in a two dimensional form, but now enjoy her work in wearable jewelry form. Meet Brenda in person and learn about her inspiration as you view, try on and purchase her one of a kind pieces.

Brenda fell in love with the transcendent nature of flowers 20 years ago working as a visual stylist. She learned working with flowers and organic nature in fresh ways invoked flower arranging as a powerful and calming medium in our daily aesthetics.

Her passion for flowers has crossed into her personal fashion and rooted a jewelry collection she has designed, created, and worn herself. Working with the lost wax process, Brenda Jones carves in great detail each piece of jewelry from hand mimicking each fold, crease, and stamen and then casts them in silver, bronze, and gold. Some of her pieces are encrusted with tiny diamonds reflecting the nature of early morning dew or a flower caught in the rain in her garden.  She sometimes collaborates with other talented artists to complete her vision. Her work embodies a surrealist perspective of nature and celebrates the beauty of imperfection. Jewelry pieces often capture the flower at different stages of life from bud to final bloom. Sometimes present in necklaces, bracelets, and rings are insects, birds, and others living among the floral and fauna.

Wear just one or layer them together as she does. Like nature, no two are alike and adds to the mystery.

The Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI) is a product of Mayor Richard M. Daley's Fashion Initiative. In 2005, then-Mayor Daley recognized the wide reach of Chicago's fashion industry.  Realizing the significant impact fashion has on the local economy, he envisioned fashion as a driver for job creation, cultural growth, trade development, and tourism.  Building on Chicago's long manufacturing heritage (two of the countries most prominent menswear brands started in the City, and still make their garments here) and the City’s internationally acclaimed design schools, the idea was to have a place that used the resources and opportunities available in Chicago to help aspiring local fashion designers build sustainable businesses that can compete in the global fashion industry. Thus the Chicago Fashion Incubator was born.

CFI is located in a 2,375 square foot on the 11th floor of the historic Macy's on State Street building. The space, donated generously by Macy’s, was initially built out in 2007. CFI is comprised of a manufacturing workroom equipped with massive cutting tables, sewing machines, and pressing stations where designers produce their sample collections. A sun-drenched multi-media room with stunning views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan serves as a showroom for buyer presentations, or a place to hang out in and find inspiration about fashion’s next big idea.

While it's sad, we know, in order to continue to bring Chicago the emerging artists and designers, lines and collections, we must go out and find them.  This sadly means we must be closed for a short while, but when we get back from our whirlwind buying trip, we will have lots of good things in store for you!
