Our Travels to Miami and New York

We've just returned from back-to-back buying trips to Maison&Objet in Miami and the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in NYC. Both of these shows not only provided us with inspiration, stimulation and new product for our showroom, but we had a ton of fun along the way. We met some incredible talent, ate really great food and took in some wonderful cultural experiences.

Both of these shows not only provided us with inspiration, stimulation and new product for our showroom, but we had a ton of fun along the way. We met some incredible talent, ate really great food and took in some wonderful cultural experiences.

Maison & Objet Americas (in Miami) was the inaugural US launch of the infamous Paris show held every year in the fall and winter in France. We arrived with eyes wide open to see if we could discover some international talent that would compliment our showroom. We were not disappointed. We saw (and added) some terrific product design from companies like Into Concrete, Finell, Serax and D & M Belgium for our showroom. But the show wasn't our only source of inspiration. We stopped in fashion emporiums The Webster and Alchemist, spent much time in the Design District and were mesmerized by the new Pérez Art Museum (designed by Herzog & de Meuron). Don't forget the food - we had a memorable meal at Yardbird and picked up a signed cookbook from Hedy Goldsmith called Baking Out Loud. Miami left us warm (hot actually) and so inspired.

Oh Manhattan, how we love you so. For a city that never disappoints, leaves us wanting more and stimulates a visual overload, New York was at its finest this past trip. The ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) seemed healthy and strong - so much so that it overflowed onto a second floor. We found great lighting from Workstead and Studio PGRB as well as incredible ceramics from Canadian Rachel Grenon. Of course we also hit the streets and took in numerous showrooms (including a fun party at Blu Dot), got our Bjork fix (at MOMA) and walked for hours downtown in some of the best neighborhoods the city has to offer. We can never get enough of you, New York, we miss you already.

A visit to the BDDW showroom left us wanting more (and all of it).
