The collections contain art blended with daily life icons, objects that send a message of shape and function while conveying to the end users the possibility to create a unique, personal fun lifestyle. Today Seletti aims at a new kind of production and daily life, an on going journey within the idea of beauty.

The Habitat by iD

Okay, yes, we're crazy. We moved to our new location a year ago (boy did that go by fast!) and within that time we've recently decided to double our space with an additional concept.

Directly next door (and attached) to iD, you'll find our newly added concept store. The Habitat by iD is a curated collection of our favorite items from furniture to clothing in the idea of an urban living environment. It is a space to be inspired by, gain ideas and become exposed to new design. In addition to everything being for sale within its concept, The Habitat is an environment where we will also host dinners, art exhibits and special events.

Please visit us soon to see new The Habitat by iD!
We're excited!

Our Travels to Miami and New York

We've just returned from back-to-back buying trips to Maison&Objet in Miami and the ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) in NYC. Both of these shows not only provided us with inspiration, stimulation and new product for our showroom, but we had a ton of fun along the way. We met some incredible talent, ate really great food and took in some wonderful cultural experiences.

Both of these shows not only provided us with inspiration, stimulation and new product for our showroom, but we had a ton of fun along the way. We met some incredible talent, ate really great food and took in some wonderful cultural experiences.

Maison & Objet Americas (in Miami) was the inaugural US launch of the infamous Paris show held every year in the fall and winter in France. We arrived with eyes wide open to see if we could discover some international talent that would compliment our showroom. We were not disappointed. We saw (and added) some terrific product design from companies like Into Concrete, Finell, Serax and D & M Belgium for our showroom. But the show wasn't our only source of inspiration. We stopped in fashion emporiums The Webster and Alchemist, spent much time in the Design District and were mesmerized by the new Pérez Art Museum (designed by Herzog & de Meuron). Don't forget the food - we had a memorable meal at Yardbird and picked up a signed cookbook from Hedy Goldsmith called Baking Out Loud. Miami left us warm (hot actually) and so inspired.

Oh Manhattan, how we love you so. For a city that never disappoints, leaves us wanting more and stimulates a visual overload, New York was at its finest this past trip. The ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair) seemed healthy and strong - so much so that it overflowed onto a second floor. We found great lighting from Workstead and Studio PGRB as well as incredible ceramics from Canadian Rachel Grenon. Of course we also hit the streets and took in numerous showrooms (including a fun party at Blu Dot), got our Bjork fix (at MOMA) and walked for hours downtown in some of the best neighborhoods the city has to offer. We can never get enough of you, New York, we miss you already.

SPOTLIGHT | ELVANG DENMARK

There is no doubt that the entire collection of Elvang Denmark's textiles is remarkable beautiful.  At iD Chicago, we know that beauty doesn't mean anything if it's only skin deep, which is why the more we learned the more we loved this stunning collection of scarves, throws, and pillows.

WHY WE'RE WARM AND FUZY FOR ELVANG DENMAKR

Super softness
The fibres of the alpaca wool are fine and thin, and textiles made of alpaca wool are thus very soft. Baby alpaca wool is extra fine and soft and primarily comes from the first cut of the alpacas, when they are about 2½ years old.

Hypoallergenic
Alpaca is the only kind of wool in the world that does not contain lanolin, which is often the source of allergic reactions towards wool. If you have an allergic reaction to lanolin, you can use textiles of pure alpaca wool.

Warm lightweight
The fibres of the alpaca woolare semi-hollow; giving Alpaca fibre added insulating value. We use this quality to weave extra fine and thin textiles that will still keep you warm. And when it is warm, the textiles feel cool.

Hard-wearing
The structure of the alpaca fibre makes it more hard-wearing than other wool fibres as for instance sheep wool and cashmere. Thus you can have your alpaca products for many years.

Minimum pilling
Textiles made of sheep wool often pill and get bits of fluff. This is due to the fact that wool fibres are uneven, which make the fibres stick to each other and eventually develop bits of fluff. Alpaca fibres are however smooth. Due to the large content of alpaca wool and a special technique of weaving our products have minimum pill.

Natural colours
Alpaca wool comes in almost all natural colours – off white, grey, golden, brown and black – more than 20 natural colours. No other natural fibre comes in the same variety of natural colours.

Dirt repellent
Both alpaca wool and sheep wool are dirt repellent. Our products tolerate daily use for many years and maintain their appearance. If it is necessary, we recommend that you have the products dry-cleaned at an eco-friendly dry cleaner.

FAIR TRADE

In order to document that we operate socially responsibly we became Fair Trade certified through the World Fair Trade Organization in 2010. This means that we observe the following 10 principles that WFTO prescribes and supervises.

  1. Creating Opportunities for Economically Disadvantaged Producers
  2. Transparency and Accountability
  3. Fair Trading Practices
  4. Payment of a Fair Price
  5. Ensuring no Child Labour and Forced Labour
  6. Commitment to Non Discrimination, Gender Equity and Freedom of Association
  7. Ensuring Good Working Conditions
  8. Providing Capacity Building
  9. Promoting Fair Trade
  10. Respect for the Environment

ETHICAL TRADE

To Elvang Denmark it is natural to operate socially responsibly. Our primary raw material is alpaca wool from the Peruvian alpaca, and our products are made in Peru.

We feel a responsibility for the humans and animals that are involved in the production of our textiles and we want to give something back to the Peruvian society. Therefore we want to treat our employees well, secure good working conditions within our supply chain, help with education, pay shepherds and workers fairly and produce and transport in an environmentally friendly way.

SPOTLIGHT | BRENDA JONES

Brenda Jones is a native Chicago artist. Not constrained by one particular medium, she voices her artistic vision through multiple creative outlets. Her artistic process is free-form and organic, channeling her dreamworlds in paintings, drawings, and lighted mixed media installations. Visceral in nature, her work is often a bizarre visual poetry inhabited by beautiful, ethereal heroines experiencing sensual epiphanies. Yet there is something menacing here, in these backroom parlors and surreal settings like a dark jungle inhabited by ominous cicada-like drone.
